When to Stop Sleeping with Your Fuck Buddy

It was fun whilst it lasted; you scratched an itch – although you weren’t as reliable as you thought you were. Yet it worked because we were old friends, but now I think we’ve outgrown our friendship.

Was I using sex as a cure for loneliness? Undoubtedly. And I think you were, too.

Now that someone new has shown an interest, I don’t need empty sex. In fact, I’m quite happy keeping my legs crossed for the moment.

When you texted, asking if I’m about this week for a “tumble”, I recoiled at how old this word made you sound. Our ten-year age gap hadn’t been a problem previously; sleeping with a 33-year-old was fine when I was 23, now I’m 26 and you’re pushing 40, for me, our ages are the sticking point.

There have been times I’ve woken up in your bed and struggled to piece together the night before – these are the times I was thankful we’re friends.

Although I’m enjoying the single life, and not expecting my next relationship to be “The One”, I am hoping to have a meaningful relationship and there’s no place for Fuck Buddies in my version of relationships.
