Over lockdown, I joined Skirt Club; a private members’ club for bisexual and bicurious women. Naturally, Covid isn’t very conducive to groups of women flirting in bars and luxury homes – especially now we’re back to the rule of 6 – and so we’ve had to enjoy one another’s company over Zoom.

Fortunately, a few events have managed to go ahead and one was a Speed Social. Not one to pass up an opportunity to meet new people and flirt with attractive women, I bought a ticket, yet not without some reservations. A few years ago I went speed dating with a very close male friend which had disastrous results. There were more women than men so all the women had at least one date with no one on the opposite side of the table, I got too pissed and lost the sheet of yeses, nos and maybes. For no good reason, I decided to go to a different speed dating event a week or so later (with a female friend) and this was also a waste of time.

The joy of Skirt Club is that it comprises like-minded women and – crucially – no men. Women are very different when away from the male gaze which was beautifully evident on this warm Wednesday evening in Soho.

Whilst some women were (understandably) nervous, everyone was warm, friendly and engaging. There was time for chatting and sharing experiences, and then the event organiser and MD of Skirt Club orchestrated the speed dating portion of the evening. As with most evenings of speed dating, we each had five minutes to chat with someone and then move on. It was fascinating learning of other women’s bisexuality stories and desires for Skirt Club and there was certainly a feeling that all these wonderful women find something special in this community.

While five minutes didn’t lead to anything more, speaking with new, interesting women was a joy and I wholeheartedly recommend bisexual, bicurious or lesbian women to consider joining Skirt Club. As part of this global community, you’ll take time for yourself and discover new pleasures… how can you say no?
