Sitting Here

You made me slow down,
be more present.
The to-do list will always be there -
ever-growing.
Just like you.
Emails, ironing and organising can wait.
Before long you'll be crawling, running, leaving.

I think I'll just sit here, in the morning winter sun,
with you lazily feeding,
enjoying this moment.

There'll come a day when you'll shun Mummy's touch.

I'll stroke that little ear
(whose shape I've learnt in just a few short-fast months).
I'll watch that fidgety foot, leg cocked,
absent-mindedly padding up my chest.
I'll admire those little hands, fingers wriggling,
grabbing my top or my bra.
And I'll smile at your perfect face and all its funny expressions
as you decide you've had your fill of milk.

Let's just sit here
in each others arms.
Enjoying the present.
