Bookish readers will know that last month, Arundhati Roy (author of The God of Small Things) published her first memoir, and the paperback of Nigel Slater’s A Thousand Feasts was released. Slater’s book celebrates the “little joys illuminating an increasingly darkening world” – moments which can “feed the soul”.
In the spirit of small things, I’ve compiled a short list of joyful moments to embrace and look forward to as autumn draws in.
- Putting on preheated clothes from the radiator
- Drinking a cup of tea when you really fancy it
- Resting your feet in a warm, soapy foot bath
- Returning parcels in InPost lockers
- The scent of & Other Stories Sicilian Sunrise hand cream
- Finishing a book not long after you’ve started it
- Reading a book with such enjoyment that all else ceases to exist
- Catching the train or bus a minute before it departs
- Wearing cashmere socks in bed
- The smell of a loved one’s hair
